Behind The Build: The Monaco

November 1, 2025

What if The Monaco could celebrate its first birthday? Well, there’s no doubt it would do it in style: a sprawling backyard barbeque with brats and pickleball, or maybe an all-night speakeasy soirée with music and laughter spilling out onto the veranda. Because one thing’s for sure: The Monaco was made for gathering and entertaining.

Over the past year, more than 12,000 people have stepped through the doors of The Monaco. Each guest has been greeted by soaring ceilings, thoughtful design, and a sense of home that’s both elegant and inviting. What began as a sketch on paper has become one of Granite Ridge Builders’ most memorable creations, a home that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and the joy of building something together.

Looking back, The Monaco represents more than just craftsmanship and design, it marks a milestone. From the earliest drawings to the final finishing touches, every department poured their heart into this home. And now, one year later, The Monaco stands as a reminder of what’s possible when imagination and teamwork come together.

Where it All Began

Every great home starts with a sketch, and after two years of reworking the blueprint, The Monaco was born. It started off with simply wanting to hide the stairway and making the house feel tall and large, while also taking full advantage of the property.

But simplicity only existed in theory. Perfecting the first-floor plan was the real puzzle because every space had to align just right before the rest of the home could fall into place. Once the main level was set, everything began to flow.

What started as a completely different concept transformed into the Modern European Chateau we know today. Taller ceilings and wider doors added to the home’s sense of grandeur, while the layout itself created that “wow” moment from the very first step inside.

Of course, a few creative challenges popped up — like finding the perfect balance for the golf simulator’s height without disrupting the upstairs — but that’s the magic of the drafting process: every challenge sparks a better idea. In the end, it all came together to form the blueprint of something truly magnificent.

From Vision to Idea

Our design team is made up of specialists in lighting, cabinetry, and construction and The Monaco gave them the perfect opportunity to test their limits and get creative. From statement lighting to custom built-ins, every inch of the home became a chance to try something new and showcase what’s possible when imagination meets craftsmanship.

No detail was too small. The cabinetry and built-ins alone pushed the team to think through every angle, every measurement, and every finish until the result felt flawless. Even something as simple as the refrigerator panels took major behind-the-scenes effort with careful calculations to make sure every line aligned perfectly with the surrounding doors and trim.

Of course, creativity really came alive in The Monaco’s signature spaces. The bonus room, tasting room, speakeasy, and golf simulator all became playgrounds for design. The outdoor living spaces brought their own level of complexity and charm. What looks like a breezy lower-level screen porch is actually the product of countless design conversations from how much stone to use on the walls to integrating screens, heaters, lighting, and even a pizza oven.

And because no great design story is without a little drama, The Monaco’s finishing stages came with a few creative twists like last-minute furniture changes and a carpet switch that turned out to be exactly the right call.

Today, when the team walks through the home, they see more than just rooms and finishes, they see creativity, problem-solving, and the joy of a project that pushed everyone to their best.

Bringing the Vision to Life

For the construction crew, framing was one of the most rewarding moments. Watching the structure rise from the ground and finally take shape gave the team their first glimpse of how all the careful planning, measurements, and details would come together. It was the moment where The Monaco stopped being a blueprint and started becoming a home.

Behind the beauty of the finished product was some serious technical know-how. The lot’s unique topography made building a seamless, multi-level design a challenge. Every elevation and measurement had to be perfectly calculated to keep the structure efficient and balanced. Then there were the exposed trusses in the great room and veranda, which needed to fit flawlessly. There was absolutely no room for error, and yet they came together perfectly, blending strength with style.

Inside, the craftsmanship shines through in every room. Custom trim work, intricate details, and creative finishes highlight what’s possible when skill meets imagination. Even the elements most people don’t see — like the extra spray foam insulation, sound-reducing materials, and carefully planned mechanical systems — reflect the team’s dedication to quality.

And while the final stretch before the grand opening was intense, it was also unforgettable. Early mornings turned into late nights as the entire Granite Ridge Builders team came together to polish every detail and make sure The Monaco opened its doors in perfection. The Monaco is proof that when every craftsperson gives their all, something truly extraordinary can rise from the ground.

Opening Our Doors

If you’ve toured The Monaco, there’s a good chance you’ve been greeted by Charity, the welcoming face who’s spent the past year sitting in the home, meeting visitors, and watching their first impressions unfold. And if there’s one reaction she’s seen time and time again, it’s pure amazement.

Guests walk through the front door and immediately say “wow.” The scale, the design, and the flow of the space all leave people in awe. The primary bedroom suite, with its sitting room and dream-worthy closet, always gets attention, as do the butler’s pantry, the outdoor living area, and the entire lower level. Every corner seems to spark a new favorite feature.

For Charity, the best part of working at The Monaco has been watching inspiration come to life. Over the past year, dozens of Granite Ridge Builders clients have created their own dream homes after visiting, pulling ideas and details straight from The Monaco’s design. Seeing how this one home has sparked so much creativity has been one of the most rewarding parts of her experience.

After spending a full year in the space, Charity’s appreciation for Granite Ridge Builders has only deepened. The Monaco may be larger than other model homes, but it’s built with the same quality materials and attention to detail found in every Granite Ridge home, it’s just on a grander scale.

For her, The Monaco isn’t just a model home. It’s a place where dreams take shape, where ideas spark, and where visitors leave seeing new possibilities for their own homes.
